Attitudes by Renée National Awards Program
Award recipients share designer Renée Greenstein’s experience
of overcoming a major life challenge with courage, hope and grace.
“My career has taken me to every corner of the world, affording me the opportunity to be with beautiful women from all different walks of life,” Renée says. “Something we all have in common is that little bit of ‘attitude’ that helps us stand out from the rest. I admire women like Mariska Hargitay and Anna Roeser, who show us through their words and actions that courage is something we can build within ourselves and pass along to others. I am thrilled to kick off our national awards program with two women who share my attitude about life and living and who give so much to others.” |

ABOUT ANNA ROESER Shortly before Christmas 2001, Anna and Mike Roeser learned their son, Gus, had leukemia. After two and a half years, Gus finally completed his chemotherapy and the family heaved a sigh of relief. Then, six months later, Anna was diagnosed with breast cancer. She began a rigorous treatment program and, like Gus, is now a survivor. The two have participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life in Chicago’s northern suburbs since 2007. This year she served as co-chairwoman of the event and captain of her team, The Mammo Mammas. The Relay For Life of GLMV raised $115,560 for cancer research this summer. |
ABOUT MARISKA HARGITAY Since 1999, Mariska Hargitay has played Det. Olivia Benson on television’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Mariska’s Joyful Heart Foundation grew directly from the heartbreaking stories on Law & Order: SVU. Since its founding in 2004, the Joyful Heart Foundation has raised nearly $5 million to help victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. More than 2,000 survivors have participated in Joyful Heart's pioneering retreat and wellness programs, and thousands more have taken that first important step to get help through the website. The foundation’s national educational and media awareness campaigns have planted the seeds of a changed awareness in the lives of millions. |
ABOUT THE AWARD The “Life is Half Full” Attitudes Award is presented monthly by Attitudes by Renée Founder and President Renée Greenstein to two women who help empower others to overcome difficult life circumstances with grace and courage. One recipient is selected from the field of theater, motion pictures, television, politics and art; the other is a non-celebrity.
The award itself is a rainbow of genuine free-floating gemstones captured in a clear glass case framed in sterling silver. The “Life is Half Full” pendant was created by Renée to honor the girl friends who helped her through a particularly difficult time in her life. The former model was in her ‘30s when she found herself suddenly widowed and left to support and raise the couple’s young son on her own. With her friends’ love and support, Renée found the inner strength and self confidence to keep going. She later remarried and is blessed with a wonderful family life. Eventually a lifelong dream came true when she launched her own clothing line, Attitudes by Renée on QVC. |
Then came Attitudes by Renée Jewelry and Accessories. About a year ago, when Renee’s Life is Half Full pendant was shown on-air, it was a first-night sell-out on QVC. In subsequent showings, viewers have again and again responded to the Life is Half Full pendant’s very special message. Their comments suggest that the exquisite little pendant has come to symbolize hope and courage for women across the country.
The Life is Half Full pendant has spawned an entire collection including rings, bracelets and other popular jewelry styles. Yet the marvelous pendant that started it all remains a sentimental favorite of its designer.
“I am touched that so many women bought the Life is Half Full pendant as a gift for someone they know who has overcome a great life challenge or who perhaps is still working it through,” Renée says. “By helping to empower their friends, these women are showing that attitude is everything in life.”
Renée Greenstein invites the public to get involved by nominating their women friends, work colleagues or someone from their community whom they believe is deserving of the “Life is Half Full” Attitude Award.
Please submit your nominee’s name, city and state, along with a letter stating why the nominee should receive the “Life is Half Full” Attitude Award. Please include your own name and email address, along with a daytime phone number where you can be reached.
